Homogeneous mixtures, like saltwater, have a uniform composition throughout, while heterogeneous mixtures, such as salad, contain visibly different substances. The separation of components in mixtures can often be achieved through physical methods, such as filtration and distillation, making them more versatile in practical applications compared to pure compounds.


In addition to these main categories, there are also classifications based on chemical properties, such as acids, bases, and salts. Acids are substances that donate protons (H⁺ ions) in solution, while bases accept protons. Salts are formed from the neutralization reaction between an acid and a base and are crucial for various biological processes.
