Kaolin is white clay . In fact, kaolin is its industrial name since it is mainly composed of kaolinite . Discovered in China, on Kauling Hill , about 3,000 years ago (although it can be found all over the world), it is a clay that stands out for its softness, whiteness and easy dispersion in water and other liquids.

China was precisely the first country to use white clays in ceramics and in the 16th century it acquired great fame in the manufacture of porcelain among the Western nobility of the time. Therefore, its industrial use has always been very important throughout the world.

This mineral is extracted from a mining operation and once extracted it must go through a beneficiation process to obtain washed kaolin as an industrial raw material.
Kaolin is very versatile due to its qualities, not only industrial but also medicinal and healing when ingested. Although the most important application of kaolin is in the paper industry as a filler or coating pigment. In fact, estimates suggest that 45% of the total kaolin produced is destined for this industry. The rest is distributed between the production of ceramics, refractory products, paints and varnishes; creation of polymers and fiberglass, manufacture of pesticides and fertilizers and to a lesser extent, for the production of cosmetics .

COSMETIC PROPERTIES OF KAOLIN

Precisely for this reason, and not least, its application in the cosmetic industry is interesting because it has a great absorbent power due to its high content of silicon, aluminum and mineral salts, in addition to being an excellent antiseptic.

In this sense, kaolin is perfect for facial preparations such as masks . It has a moisturizing and soothing effect , in addition to exfoliating and absorbing impurities. It is also excellent for the scalp and hair , perfect for removing excess sebum. And it is a great natural deodorant due to its absorbent and antiseptic properties.
On the other hand, if you suffer from psoriasis, dermatitis or suffer from itching, burns or peeling, applying white clay to your skin will relieve you and refresh the applied area. And if you are pregnant you can use it to prevent stretch marks , and if you apply it mixed with essential oils its effect will be much more beneficial.

Thanks to its ability to absorb bacteria and viruses , kaolin is a great ally for the digestive system, as it cleanses the body of heavy metals and is ideal in case of bloating or food poisoning. In addition, it also regulates acidity and pH, which is perfect if we suffer from heartburn. Of course, it is advisable to receive professional advice to ensure you take kaolin for food uses.

And finally, kaolin stands out curiously because it can be used to make toothpastes since it is one of the best options for cleaning and caring for teeth while whitening them, especially if it is mixed with other natural ingredients.
