Insoluble in water, slightly soluble in inorganic acid, react with hot concentrated sulfuric acid to produce hydrofluoric acid. In general, calcium fluoride is prepared by the interaction of calcium carbonate with hydrofluoric acid or by repeated treatment of fluorite powder with concentrated hydrochloric acid or hydrofluoric acid.
